Ultimate Chicken is a team game which was developed by the St. Simon Student Athletic Council (SAC) from an idea found in Zany Activities with a Rubber Chicken. The game is a co-educational game where the object is to pass the rubber chicken to your teammates while seated on a scooter board as you move down the court in an effort to score a goal. There are four principle rules in Ultimate Chicken:
- 1 Have fun.
- 2 There must be an equal number of males to females on the court at one time (4 vs. 4 is ideal).
- 3 Each member of your team must have caught and passed the chicken on each team possession before a goal can be scored.
- 4 Players can only pivot on the scooter board once they have possession of the chicken. Moving down the court is considered traveling.
The league is organized by students for the students of St. Simon School providing a great leadership opportunity as well as providing a safe environment for students of all abilities to participate in a team activity.
Ultimate Chicken is available to the Junior Division students (Grades 4-6) during the 2nd Term. There are four games per week for 12 weeks. Each game is approximately 30 minutes in length and occurs during the lunch hour.
St. Simon Student Athletic Council runs the program with the assistance of staff. The Council organizes the teams and schedules as well as coaching all of the teams and refereeing all of the games.
The program is supervised by staff on a rotational basis.

Approximately 95% of the entire Junior population at St. Simon Catholic School participates in Ultimate Chicken. The SAC Commissioners have developed a parent permission form for Ultimate Chicken. Incorporated into this form is a request of parents to rate their children’s athletic ability. From these ratings, the Commissioners create balanced teams based on gender, grade and ability.
The main barrier that is faced is finding time to schedule games amongst all of the other activities. St. Simon Catholic School offers a full compliment of inter-school athletic activities, arts and crafts programs, chess club, Taekwandoe on Wednesdays as well as our intramural leagues.
The intramural program at St. Simon, in particular Ultimate Chicken, has become part of the social fabric at the school. Ultimate Chicken provides an opportunity for all of the Junior students at St. Simon to participate in an exciting team activity regardless of their gender or physical ability. Ensuring positive play experiences for all these young students is one of the keys to making certain that they will develop a positive attitude toward healthy, active living and more likely to choose active, positive leisure pursuits later in life.
As well, the intermediate students have benefited greatly from our intramural programs because they have been given an opportunity to develop their leadership skills. If we expect the next generation to be leaders, then we need to provide students with positive, nurturing and authentic leadership opportunities. I am extremely proud of the work that the St. Simon Athletic Council has done in an effort to promote healthy active living and learning at our school.

Object of the Game: The object of “Ultimate Chicken” is to pass the rubber chicken to all of your teammates, while seated on a scooter board, down the court in an effort to score on the opposing team’s net.
Rules:
- The game is played 4 on 4 with equal numbers of boys and girls on each team.
- You must be seated on your scooter board at all times. If you fall off of your scooter board on your own accord, then you will lose possession of the chicken.
- Once you are in possession of the rubber chicken, you cannot travel in any direction on your scooter board. If you do travel in any direction, then you will lose possession of the chicken and it will go to the other team.
- You have five seconds to pass the chicken to a teammate. If you do not do so, the other team gets possession of the chicken.
- You may not tear/rip/claw the chicken out of another person’s hands.
- If you try to pass the chicken to your teammate and it drops, the other team will have possession of the chicken.
- A team will inbound the chicken from where the chicken lands.
- Before you can shoot on goal, each player on your team must have had possession of the chicken.
- When a goal is scored and it is deemed by the referee that not all players on that team had possession of the chicken prior to the goal, the goal will be disallowed.

- No team may protect/block their net.
- Each shift will be two minutes in length. Once the buzzer has sounded to indicate the end of the shift, players will pick up their scooters and hand them to their teammates who are on the next shift.
